Networking cords are the network hardware which is used to associate one network device to other network devices or to attach two or more computers to assign printers, scanners, etc. Other types of network cables, such as coaxial cable, optical fiber cable, and twisted pair cables, are used to regulate by on the network physical layer, topology, and size.

Coaxial cable

            Coaxial cable glance identical to the cable used to carry TV signal. A solid-core copper wire runs down the middle of the cable. About that solid-core copper wire is a layer of insulation, and covering that insulation is braided wire and metal foil, which shields against electromagnetic conflict. A final layer of insulation enveloped the braided wire.

There are two types of coaxial cabling: Thinnet and Thicknet.

Twisted Pair Cable

            Twisted-pair cable is the most typical type of cabling you can see in today’s LAN networks and is also used  in short patch cables and in the longer runs in structured cabling .A pair of wires forms a circuit that can transmit data. The pairs are twisted to provide a safe guard against crosstalk, the noise generated by adjacent pairs. . Two Types of Twisted Pairs are;

Unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable

            UTP cables use copper to transmit an electrical signal. The advantage of UTP is that it’s cheap and easy to work with. One of the disadvantages is that you can only use it up to 100 meters.

Shielded Twisted Pair Cable

STP is similar to UTP but with each pair covered by an additional copper braid jacket or foil wrapping. This shielding helps protect the signals on the cables from external interference. STP is used in IBM token ring networks.

Optical Fiber Cabling

            Optical Fiber cables uses optical fibers that carry digital data signals in the form of modulated pulses of light. An optical fiber consists of an extremely thin cylinder of glass, called the core, surrounded by a concentric layer of glass, known as the cladding. There are two fibers per cables, one to transmit and one to receive.  Optical fiber deployment is more expensive than copper, but offers higher bandwidth and can cover longer distances. There are two major types of optical fiber cables: shorter-range multi-mode fiber and long-range single-mode fiber.

RJ 45 Connectors

RJ45 is a type of connector commonly used for Ethernet networking. Since Ethernet cables have an RJ45 connector on each end, Ethernet cables are sometimes also called RJ45 cables. The “RJ” in RJ45 stands for “registered jack,” since it is a standardized networking interface

RJ 45 Connectors

 The “45” simply introduce to the number of the interface standard. Each RJ45 connector has eight pins, which means an RJ45 cable contains eight separate wires. RJ45 cables can be wired in two contrasting ways. One version is called T-568A and the other is T-568B.

Crimping

Crimping is the process of affixing a connector to the end of a cable. Crimp-on connectors are attached by inserting the stripped end of a stranded wire into a portion of the connector, which is then mechanically deformed / compressed (crimped) tightly around the wire.

Crimping tool is a device used to conjoin two pieces of metal by deforming one or both of them in a way that causes them to hold each other.

Straight through Cablesare used for linking different devices. Straight Through Cable is used for connecting a LAN port to a computer, hub or switch. It is an 8 wired patch cable. It is also used when connecting a PC to a switch and also for connecting router to a hub, or a printer to the router, etc. Its main purpose is to connect a host to the client.

Crossover Cablesare planted to connect two hosts together. The cables are crossed wire to let the two computers or hosts get connected directly. Crossover Cables are used when like or same devices are intended to be connected. Crossover Cables are extensively used for connecting a computer with a computer, switch to switch, and router to router, hub to hub and a computer with a router.

Rollover wired Cablesconnect any device or a computer terminal to a network switch console port. The cables connected in a rolling manner are not responsible for the connectivity of the network or transmitting data rather they only establish an interface with the device.
