Java project was launched in June 1991 by James Gosling, Mike Sheridan and Patrick Nouaán. Java was originally designed for interactive television, but at that time it expanded to digital cable television industry. It first called as oak and later changed as Java.

Java is a cross-platform tool because jvm converts our Java code to machine code which is compatible with any operating system. Java is not just a programming language, but a programming environment for developing and deploying enterprise applications.

Java was initially designed for interactive television. Currently, it is being used for many different applications such as:
