UFT / QTP is an automated functional testing tool by Micro Focus that benefit automated tests to spot bugs in an operation under test. UFT stands for Unified Functional Testing. It was previously known as QTP (Quick Test Professional). In fact expert with this tool still last to assign it as QTP. QTP was formerly invented by the company Mercury Interactive which was gained by Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2006. In 2011, with the establishment of version 11.5, QTP was renamed as UFT. In Sep 2017, HPE spins combine into Micro Focus. Since then UFT is inventing, sustained and keep by Micro Focus.

The UFT is mainly used for functional testing, regression testing and service testing. Using UFT, you can automate user behavior on a web or client established computer operation ,check and analyze bugs on the same behaviour for other users, different data set, on different Windows operating systems and different browsers. Automation using UFT if prepared and accomplished in a appropriate aspect can set free considerable time and money compared to manual testing. The UFT is one of the most commonly used economic automation testing tools in the top position today. It is known for its simplified of use and uphold by the stakeholders and extensive society of automation testers. Due to this reason, skilled UFT professionals are ever in demand.

Supported Languages

All versions of QTP/UFT come pre-installed with a Product Availability Matrix available by the name QTP_PAM.pdf (for versions below 11.0) or UFT_PAM.pdf (for versions 11.5 or above) This is the suitable way to find the compatibility of QTP/UFT with different Operating systems, browsers, technologies, add-ins etc.

Micro Focus Unified Functional Testing uses VB Script as its scripting language. The VB script language that is perfectly sustained by the UFT’s IDE. VB Script supports Object Oriented Programming concepts, but not polymorphism and inheritance.

  • Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, Edge (with applicable patches and service packs)
  • Firefox 3.0.X, 3.5, 3.6 to 61 (with applicable patches and service packs)
  • Google Chrome till version 71 (with applicable patches and service packs)
  • Safari on Mac OS v6 – v11

Supported Operating Systems

Windows 7 (SP1) , Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 including Surface support for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. UFT 12 onward supports Safari on Mac OS (in Beta mode)

As of January 2020, UFT does not compatible with Linux OS. An Enhancement Request (ER) is open for review on the HP but there is no time line specified.
